Swiss national Erich von Däniken was born 1935 as son of a garment manufacturer.

His first book, »Chariots of the Gods?« was published in 1968. In it, he describes his theory that in the dim and distant past, extraterrestrial visitors made contact with primitive man, thus laying the foundation of human civilization. An incredible yet plausible idea, instantly unleashing a worldwide controversy which endures to this day. The book was translated into 32 languages, electrifying millions of readers.

Even larger was the audience of his first award-winning film, which, on January 5th, 1973, brought every third American in front of the TV. To this day, 30 more books have followed, selling well over 63 million copies.

This makes Erich von Däniken the most prolific non-fiction writer of all time. His work also had a far-reaching influence on film and television: Films like »Strange Encounters of the third Kind« and »Stargate« were inspired through him. His television miniseries Außerirdische – kehren sie zurück?« (Extraterrestrials – are they returning?), broadcast on Germany’s RTL-TV, reached approx. 4,9 viewers – one of the highest ratings for an after 10pm timeslot.

In 2003, Erich von Däniken opened »Mystery Park« in Interlaken, Switzerland. It is the goal of this theme park to acquaint its vistors, especially young people, with the great mysteries of the world through spectacular virtual displays.

Erich von Däniken and his wife Elisabeth live in Beatenberg, near Interlaken.
